10 places to take your motorhome this summer

Motorhomes and a touring caravan parked on a campsite beneath a vibrant pink, purple and orange sunset sky.

As we approach the end of summer, you might be looking for your last chance to get away for a nice break or even be thinking about planning your road trips for 2027. No matter what kind of motorhome break you’re looking for, there’s a destination with your name on it.

1. Outer Hebrides

For every island lover

If you’re searching for somewhere that feels more like the Caribbean than Scotland, the Isle of Harris is for you. Think turquoise waters, a dramatic mountain backdrop and empty beaches. If you’ve got the time to explore, why stop at one island? The Outer Hebrides are made for epic motorhome adventures. Take the opportunity to island hop through Barra, Eriskay, the Uists and Lewis before returning to the mainland.

2. New Forest

For every slow-paced explorer

Sometimes the best trips aren't about how much you can fit in but rather taking time to slow down. The New Forest offers ancient woodlands, charming villages and happens to be the resting place of Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the free-roaming ponies, with roughly 5,000 in the area.¹

3. Northumberland Coast

For every history buff

If your idea of a summer getaway includes riveting history and striking scenery, then the Northumberland Coast won’t let you down. Wake up by the coast and spend the day exploring some of the region’s most iconic landmarks, from Bamburgh Castle and the tidal island of Lindisfarne to Alnwick Castle.

4. The Cotswolds

For every bucket list traveller

Another idyllic place that’s perfect if you want to take your time and unwind is the Cotswolds. Picture honey-coloured architecture, winding country roads and villages that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. This destination is all about slow drives, long lunches and browsing independent shops.

5. Gower Peninsula

For every budding photographer

If you’re looking for dramatic scenery, the Gower Peninsula is worth checking out. It was the first place in the UK to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty² and it’s easy to see why – imagine rugged cliffs hugging miles of golden beaches. Top tip: end your day watching the sunset at Rhossili Bay for a sight you won’t want to miss.

6. Cairngorms National Park

For every Munro bagger

If you love getting out into the great outdoors and ticking a few mountains off your bucket list, then head to the Cairngorms National Park. Home to five out of the six highest mountains in the UK, and 38 other worthwhile Munros,³ the region is a haven for hillwalkers. Spend your days hiking through the glens before taking a refreshing dip in the glistening lochs to unwind.

7. Isle of Wight

For every culture seeker

For a relatively small island, the Isle of Wight’s summer events calendar certainly packs a punch. From world-famous music festivals and sailing regattas, to open-air performances and food festivals celebrating garlic.⁴ Add in a quick ferry crossing and scenic coastal drives and you’ve got everything you need for a memorable getaway.

8. Lincolnshire Wolds

For every relaxation seeker

If you’re searching for a quiet place to escape the crowds, then the Lincolnshire Wolds might be just the ticket. It’s also a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has some of the most unspoilt scenery in the East Midlands.⁵ With plenty of scenic walks to explore, you get to enjoy a real hidden gem.

9. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, Scotland

For every city-and-countryside explorer

Sweeping roads hugging the edge of a loch, peaceful forests towering above and dramatic mountain views make Loch Lomond and The Trossachs a solid option for a road trip in your motorhome. With Glasgow just a short drive away, you can enjoy the perfect blend of a bustling city before escaping back to the tranquil national park.

10. South Downs National Park, Sussex

For every foodie

If you’re looking for a destination that tastes as good as it looks, South Downs is hard to beat. From farmers’ markets to cosy pubs, there’s no shortage of local flavours to discover along the way. It’s also home to some of England’s most celebrated vineyards, so pick up a bottle to enjoy once you're settled in for the evening at your campsite.
