As the days slowly get shorter and a chill begins to nip the air, winter isn’t far off. While many opt to store their caravan away over the colder month, many caravanners see winter as an opportunity to explore the most beautiful spots in the UK with far less foot traffic. In that vein, we wanted to share five campsites to take your caravan this winter, inspired by the Caravan Club and the National Trust.
Winter caravanning: five perfect winter campsites
1. Cheddar Club Campsite, Somerset
The Cheddar Club Campsite gives you easy access to a range of action-packed adventures and slower paced activities. Explore the nearby Cheddar village and gorge, which forms part of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If the weather takes a turn, there’s no need to hide in your camper – instead, head to Wookey Hole Caves or consider visiting Wells, England’s postcard-pretty smallest city – popularised in the movie Hot Fuzz – which is just as picturesque in winter.
2. Great Langdale Campsite, Cumbria
It’s all about the dramatic landscapes over at this Lake District campsite, which is surrounded by towering peaks, including the iconic Langdale Pikes. Not only will you find pitches, but this award-winning campsite offers wooden camping pods, too – plus a shop and a pub just five minutes away. There’s no need to leave your furry friends behind either, as this campsite is dog friendly.
3. Red Kite Touring Park, Powys
This Welsh adults-only caravan park was crowned the regional winner of the Top 100 Sites Guide 2026, so why not head there this winter? With fully serviced pitches and picturesque views of the countryside, Red Kite’s facilities boast a coarse fishing lake, an on-site shop and a modern washroom. Furry friends are not only welcomed but fully catered for with a designated 10-acre dog walking area, pool, and on-site dog wash.
4. Bridlington Club Campsite, Yorkshire
Wildlife enthusiasts will have much to crow about at this campsite, which is near the home of the UK’s largest mainland seabird colony. In the winter, expect to see snow buntings, waxwings and rough-legged buzzards, who call the Flamborough and Filey Coast home. With 81 all-weather pitches, this Yorkshire campsite is the perfect spot to enjoy what winter has to offer. If you’re missing the city, head to nearby York for a daytrip.
5. Glen Nevis Holidays, Scottish Highlands
For a more refined experience, look no further than this four-star rated campsite nestled into the bottom of Ben Nevis. An on-site restaurant and lounge bar means you don’t have to go far – if you don’t want to – while the option of fully serviced pitches can elevate your trip. As well as exploring Ben Nevis, venture off the campsite to tour the Loch Linnhe by boat, or you could head to the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ – Fort William.
