Trailer tent insurance

Trailer Tent Insurance is designed to give you the peace of mind that you are protected should your trailer tent be stolen or damaged. It is there to cover the cost of repairing or replacing your trailer tent in these events.

Unlike car insurance, Trailer Tent Insurance is not a legal requirement, but is strongly recommended as without it you would incur the cost of its replacement or repair.

Third party liability would be covered by your car insurance when you’re towing your trailer, but specific trailer tent insurance extends to cover your legal liability for injury to others or damage to third party property whilst on site.

Unexpected situations do happen and are not always in your control, so should the worst happen it’s comforting to know you are financially covered against loss or damage to your trailer tent.

Here’s a selection of just a few of the key aspects of insuring your trailer tent with Towergate:

New for old cover – is available for any trailer tents under ten years old if damaged beyond repair.

European cover – you can extend your towing cover at an extra charge, should you holiday outside the UK.

Awnings – if this is part of the main frame structure of your trailer tent, it’s covered. If you have an extra awning just let us know, it can still be covered on our policy at an extra charge.

Contents contained within the trailer – We can cover your equipment and possessions stored in your trailer tent provided they’re included in your sums insured – see our jargon buster for more on sums insured (exclusions apply).

At Everywhen we offer a flexible product so you can choose the cover package that suits your needs, based on how you holiday with your trailer tent. We’ve included some basic cover options as standard, so you can be confident the most common risks to your trailer tent will be covered.

These include cover for accidental damage whilst towing, fire, theft, storm, malicious damage and third party liability. You can then choose to add, upgrade or extend your cover with what matters to you, so you only pay for what you want.

An excess is the first amount you would pay towards your claim. Our trailer tent insurance policy has a fixed excess of £100 You can choose to protect your excess which means should you need to make a claim your excess is insured and you will not have to pay towards the claim. This cover is limited to £250 of excess per year.

There are several locations where our insurance can cover your trailer tent whilst stored. If you choose to store it at your home then in your garden, on your driveway or in your garage are all suitable but you cannot store your trailer tent on a public road as your insurance will no longer be valid if it gets stolen. If you store it on a site, we have some requirements the site must meet so it is deemed secure enough. We ask that parks and caravan storage sites have locked gates. It's often worth speaking with the team to ensure we can help.

Our touring caravan policy can provide can for touring caravans, airstreams, pop-ups, folding campers, trailer tents and 5th wheelers, just ask our helpful caravan team. We can also cover horse trailers under our horse trailer insurance policy.

If you would prefer to spread the cost of your policy you have the option of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your premium in monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL). When you purchase your insurance policy, we will send you a welcome email with your policy documents. If you have requested paper versions, these documents will be sent to you in the post. If you purchased your touring caravan policy after June 2017, you can also view your documents in your online portal. If you are renewing your policy, your documents will be emailed to you in your renewal pack or available in your online portal in the ‘My Account’ section.

It’s always important to view the full list of exclusions in the policy documents when you take out your policy.Here are the key things you need to know to stay covered and a few items which unfortunately we can’t cover all together:Storing your trailer tent outside the boundaries of your home – It is important that you let us know where you store the tent.For example, leaving it on a public road even outside your home could mean that you are not covered if your tent is damaged or stolen.TVs, pedal cycles, mobile phones and portable electronic equipment – These items are generally insured under your home insurance, so they’re not included in our trailer tent cover.Camping related equipment, including portable gas cookers and garden furniture, can be covered as long as you include them in your sums insured.

Your renewal information will be emailed to you before your renewal date. If you purchased a touring caravan policy after June 2017 or a static caravan, you can also view your renewal documents and make changes to your policy in your online portal in the ‘My Account’ section which will include details of what is insured and your premium for the next year.

When you purchase your insurance, we will send your Policy Schedule in your welcome email which you will need to retain as your proof of insurance. If you purchased your touring caravan policy after June 2017, you can also view your Policy Schedule in your online portal.

Yes – to cancel your policy there is a £30 cancellation charge.

If you choose to cancel your policy within the first 14 days, you will not be charged and a full refund will be provided, including any additional products you may have selected, as long as no claims have been made. The 14 days begin from the date your policy starts or the date you receive your documents, whichever is the latter.If you decide to cancel your policy after the first 14 days, you will be charged, by the insurer, for the time you have been on cover and a £30 cancellation fee and our commission will be retained on a pro rata basis. Also, our customer service charge and any additional products are completely non-refundable. However, if a claim has been made, the full premium will be charged.Our optional additional products include: excess protection, legal protection and key protection. Please check your documentation to confirm if you have included these products in your policy.

Yes, you can remove your optional additional products at any time. However, you will only receive a refund of premium for these covers in the first 14 days. After the first 14 days the optional additional products are non-refundable.

Sometimes insurance can be a bit like a foreign language. Here’s our run down of a few words and phrases which may be a little confusing.

Accidental damage - An unintentional, one off incident that causes unexpected and non-deliberate damage.

Public liability - Your 'responsibility’ for the wellbeing of other members of the public and their property. In insurance, this refers to the cover given to compensate legal costs and compensation payments resulting from injuries or property damage to others resulting from your negligence

Loss of use cover - Cover for alternative accommodation if something happens to the caravan that makes it uninhabitable, for example damage caused in a road traffic accident

Excess - The amount you are asked to pay towards a claim on your policy

New for old policies - Your trailer tent and some contents will be covered for replacement as new. (If we cannot replace your trailer tent with the same model we will work with you to find the best equivalent)

Market value - The cost of replacing your trailer tent at its present value - taking into consideration; year of manufacture, type, wear and tear

Policy schedule - Your insurance document outlining the period during which your policy is valid
