What does martial arts clubs and associations insurance cover?
Public liability cover for martial arts clubs and associations
We offer a 12-month public liability cover policy for martial arts clubs and associations, flexible to your needs. Options include, cover for tournaments and events, employers' liability with a £10 million indemnity limit, directors' and officers' liability with indemnity limit options, personal accident cover and specialist travel cover (with one-off trip and annual cover options).
*This forms part of the group public and products liability policy and provides cover for one member to another member for negligent injury. This is not a form of personal accident insurance. Excess of £250 applicable.
Our Martial Guard policy options also include contractual liability and cloakroom liability (up to £150 for any one item and up to £1000 for any one period of insurance)
Please note we cannot provide cover for the following: if your club acquires another club (automatic acquisitions), advertising injury, libel and slander. Please check your policy documents for full details of exclusions of cover.
Martial arts instructor insurance
Our Martial Guard Instructor policy is designed to cover the main liability insurance needs of a martial arts instructor. This includes public and products liability, as well as a 24-hour personal accident cover option, with weekly benefits of up to £500, broken bones cover and up to 10 physiotherapy sessions. Cover is on a ‘claims occurrence’ basis, meaning you are protected for incidents during your policy, even if the claim is made at a later date.
Legal cover
This insures your legal liability to pay compensation to members of the public, or club or association members, if they are injured or their property is damaged as a result of an accident caused by you or your products, or your employees or members while acting on your behalf.
Our Martial Guard martial arts policy includes court attendance compensation (up to £500 for a director and up to £200 for an employee), cover for manslaughter defence costs up to £5,000,000 (for any one period of insurance), and legal defence costs under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Cover is provided for the above in connection with the defence of any valid claim, including your representation at any coroner’s inquest, fatal accident enquiry or certain criminal proceedings.
Cover extends to include legal costs and expenses incurred with our consent and costs of the prosecution against you in connection with the defence of any criminal proceedings brought under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 in respect of any fatal injury. Cover is limited to £5M or the amount stated in the policy schedule whichever is the lower. One claims or series of claims arising out of one occurrence.
Exclusions include:
Injury to any employee
Loss of or damage to property belonging to you or in your charge or control except premises occupied by you for temporary work
Liability for loss or damage to goods sold, supplied, delivered, installed or erected or the cost of recalling or refunding a defective product or replacing, repairing or reinstating faulty work
Liability arising out of ownership, possession or use of any mechanically propelled vehicle or attached trailer where motor insurance is required by law (other than for loading/unloading) or any water craft or aircraft
Liability arising out of error or omission in any advice, design, formula, specification, inspection, certification or testing performed for a fee
In respect of injury, loss or damage arising from products:
Liability which attaches solely under the terms of an agreement
Installed or incorporated in aircraft or spacecraft
Claims made in any country outside the European Union if you have premises or representation in that country
Injury, loss or damage arising from products exported to the USA or Canada.

Group public liability provides indemnity for your legal liability for damages, including claimant legal costs arising out of accidental injury to any person (other than employees), accidental loss or damage to third party property, nuisance and trespass and member to member indemnity.
Instructor public and products liability provides a personal indemnity to an Instructor for liability arising from their instruction, demonstration or supervision of martial arts activity, including legal defense costs.

Yes, the cover is personal to you as an instructor, but you have to be attached to an organisation.

Personal Accident cover provides a benefit (subject to the policy terms) if a member is injured whilst participating in Martial Arts regardless of negligence. Liability cover is an indemnity for Legal Liability.
For competitions/events organised by an Association/Club which is open for non-members to take part, the organising Association/Club is required to extend their cover for the duration of the competition/event. We will require the date, venue name, limit of indemnity and payment before cover can be issued.
The minimum age is 4 years, while the maximum age is 70 years. The maximum age will only apply to the Personal Accident policy.
It applies to members over 16 years of age only, unless the junior member is hospitalised. Benefit will be paid to the junior member for the period of the hospitalisation. The two-week excess period will apply.
The two week excess period is the amount of time you have to be out of work due to an insurable event before a claim can be made.
Yes, the policies are Worldwide, but exclude the USA and Canada in respect of Products Liability Cover, though cover only applies to UK domiciled persons.

We can tailor a package of All Risks cover for your Dojo. The policy can include cover for the buildings, contents, business interruption, money and glass.
Description of activities
Your insurer covers only those activities which you have declared on your Statement of Fact. You must advise us of all activities in which you participate or any additional ones you wish to include to ensure that adequate cover is effective.
